Shipping & Delivery
Shipping & Delivery Policy
Last updated: 20 September 2026
At Bell & Barter, we take care to ensure that your order is packed securely and entrusted to a suitable delivery partner.
Once a parcel leaves our counter, its journey is carried out by independent courier providers. While we select and work with reputable delivery services, traffic, weather, regional routing, courier capacity and other circumstances can occasionally affect delivery times.
This Policy explains how shipping works, what our delivery estimates mean, what happens when something goes wrong, and the responsibilities of both Bell & Barter and the customer.
This Policy is intended to operate in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (“CPA”), the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (“ECTA”), the applicable Consumer Goods and Services Industry Code, and other applicable South African law.
Nothing in this Policy excludes or limits a consumer right that may not lawfully be excluded or limited.
1. Where we deliver
Bell & Barter delivers to supported addresses throughout South Africa using third-party courier providers.
Delivery availability depends on:
-
the delivery address;
-
the size and weight of the parcel;
-
the selected delivery service;
-
courier coverage;
-
whether the destination is classified as local, main-centre, regional, remote or outlying; and
-
any operational restrictions imposed by the relevant courier.
Certain remote farms, mines, estates, informal settlements, restricted-access premises or other difficult-to-service locations may require additional arrangements.
Where a courier is unable to service the address provided, Bell & Barter will contact the customer to arrange an alternative delivery location or service where reasonably possible.
If no reasonable alternative can be agreed, the order may be cancelled and any amount that must be refunded under applicable law will be refunded.
2. Courier partners
Bell & Barter uses independent third-party courier services and may make use of courier providers available through Bob Go, together with other delivery providers we may appoint from time to time.
Available courier companies and services may change without notice.
The courier shown at checkout, in a shipping notification or on a tracking link may therefore differ depending on:
-
destination;
-
service availability;
-
parcel size;
-
collection capacity;
-
courier network conditions; and
-
the delivery method selected.
Unless the identity of a particular courier has expressly been agreed as a material term of the order, Bell & Barter may appoint or reassign a suitable delivery provider where reasonably necessary.
We will endeavour to maintain a service level that is reasonably equivalent to the delivery option purchased.
3. Shipping charges
Any applicable shipping charge will be displayed to the customer before completion of the order.
Shipping charges may depend on matters including:
-
parcel size and weight;
-
volumetric weight;
-
destination;
-
regional or remote-area classification;
-
courier;
-
service level;
-
insurance or liability cover where applicable; and
-
promotional shipping offers.
The shipping fee shown and accepted at checkout forms part of the transaction.
Bell & Barter will not unilaterally impose an additional shipping charge after an order has been concluded merely because a courier later quotes a higher price.
If an incorrect address, materially incorrect parcel information, unusual delivery requirement or other circumstance makes the selected service unavailable or materially more expensive, we may contact the customer before dispatch to agree on an alternative.
If an additional charge is required, it will not be imposed without the customer’s agreement.
4. Free shipping promotions
Where Bell & Barter offers free shipping, the promotion may be subject to:
-
a minimum order value;
-
qualifying products;
-
specified delivery areas;
-
specified service levels;
-
promotional dates; or
-
other conditions disclosed with the promotion.
Unless otherwise stated, Bell & Barter may select the courier and service used for a free-shipping order.
Free shipping does not necessarily mean express, priority or overnight delivery.
5. Order processing
Orders require time to be:
-
verified;
-
picked;
-
checked;
-
packed; and
-
handed over to the courier.
Our processing time is separate from the courier’s transit time.
Where an item is shown as in stock, Bell & Barter will endeavour to prepare it for dispatch as promptly as reasonably possible.
Orders placed:
-
after our daily processing cut-off;
-
over a weekend;
-
on a South African public holiday; or
-
during an unusually high-volume period
may only begin processing on the next applicable business day.
Any specific processing estimate displayed on the website or order confirmation should be read together with this Policy.
6. Business days
Unless expressly stated otherwise, references to business days mean Monday to Friday, excluding South African public holidays.
Weekend and public-holiday delivery may be available through certain couriers but should not be assumed unless expressly offered.
7. Estimated delivery times
Delivery times displayed by Bell & Barter are estimates unless we expressly state that a particular delivery date or time is guaranteed.
An estimate such as:
“1–2 business days”
means the courier ordinarily aims to complete the applicable delivery service within that period after collection or dispatch.
It does not mean that Bell & Barter guarantees delivery at a particular hour or on a particular date.
Courier transit estimates may be affected by circumstances including:
-
destination;
-
regional routing;
-
collection time;
-
courier capacity;
-
seasonal volumes;
-
severe weather;
-
road closures;
-
strikes or civil disruption;
-
vehicle breakdowns;
-
network or system outages;
-
security incidents;
-
accidents;
-
inaccessible premises;
-
incorrect address information; or
-
other circumstances outside Bell & Barter’s reasonable control.
Bell & Barter will nevertheless comply with any delivery obligation imposed by applicable law.
8. ECTA and online-order fulfilment
For qualifying electronic transactions, ECTA requires the supplier to execute an order within 30 days after receiving the order unless the parties have agreed otherwise.
A different period may therefore apply where the customer has expressly agreed to it, including in relation to:
-
preorders;
-
backorders;
-
special-order products;
-
products awaiting supplier stock;
-
made-to-order goods; or
-
another product displaying a longer fulfilment period before purchase.
Where Bell & Barter fails to execute an electronic order within the applicable period, the consumer retains the rights provided by ECTA, including the applicable cancellation right.
If Bell & Barter becomes unable to fulfil an online order because the goods are unavailable, we will notify the customer and process any required refund in accordance with ECTA and other applicable law.
9. Courier service names
Terms such as:
-
same day;
-
overnight;
-
next day;
-
express;
-
priority; or
-
economy
may be names used by the relevant courier to describe particular service levels.
Unless Bell & Barter expressly guarantees a particular delivery date in writing, those names should be understood together with the courier’s applicable coverage, collection cut-offs, route classifications and operating conditions.
For example, an “overnight” service may not be available to every regional or remote destination.
10. Tracking
Where tracking is available, Bell & Barter will ordinarily provide a tracking number, tracking link or shipment notification after the parcel has been booked or collected.
Tracking information is supplied by the courier and may not update immediately.
It is normal for:
-
a shipment to have been collected before the first tracking scan appears;
-
scans to be delayed;
-
multiple tracking events to appear together; or
-
estimated delivery information to change while the parcel moves through the courier network.
A lack of an immediate tracking update does not necessarily mean the parcel has been lost.
If tracking has remained unchanged for an unusual period, customers are welcome to contact Bell & Barter and we will investigate.
11. When delivery is considered complete
Delivery must take place at the agreed delivery location or another location subsequently agreed between Bell & Barter and the customer.
Where applicable law requires it, goods remain at Bell & Barter’s risk until the customer has accepted delivery.
Depending on the chosen method, delivery may be accepted by:
-
the customer;
-
a person expressly authorised by the customer;
-
a nominated recipient;
-
an authorised reception or mailroom;
-
an authorised security desk;
-
a nominated collection point; or
-
another delivery method specifically instructed or approved by the customer.
Bell & Barter will not regard a parcel as properly delivered merely because a courier left it unattended at an unauthorised location.
12. Authority to leave a parcel
If a customer specifically asks or authorises the courier or Bell & Barter to:
-
leave a parcel at a gate;
-
leave it at a door;
-
leave it with security;
-
place it in another nominated location; or
-
deliver it without obtaining a signature,
the customer accepts the additional risk associated with that delivery instruction once the courier has complied with it.
This does not protect Bell & Barter or the courier from liability for conduct that cannot lawfully be excluded.
For valuable trading cards, collectibles or other high-value goods, Bell & Barter may decline an unattended-delivery request where we reasonably believe a secure handover is appropriate.
13. Pickup points and lockers
Where Bell & Barter offers delivery to a locker, counter or other collection point, the customer is responsible for collecting the parcel within the collection period communicated by the relevant service provider.
Collection periods vary between providers.
Customers should therefore follow the collection deadline contained in the courier’s SMS, email or tracking notification.
Where an uncollected parcel is returned to Bell & Barter, reasonable return and re-delivery charges may apply where permitted by law.
14. Correct delivery information
The customer is responsible for providing accurate and complete delivery information, including where applicable:
-
recipient name;
-
street address;
-
suburb;
-
city or town;
-
province;
-
postal code;
-
mobile number;
-
email address;
-
unit or complex number;
-
business name;
-
access instructions; and
-
other information reasonably required to complete delivery.
Bell & Barter is not responsible for delays caused solely by materially incorrect or incomplete information supplied by the customer.
15. Address changes
If an address needs to be changed, please contact Bell & Barter as soon as possible.
We will endeavour to update the delivery address before dispatch but cannot guarantee that an address can be changed once:
-
the order has been packed;
-
a waybill has been generated;
-
the parcel has been collected; or
-
the courier has begun processing it.
After dispatch, an address change may require a courier reroute and may result in an additional charge.
Any such charge will only be passed on to the customer where reasonable and permitted by law.
16. PO boxes and similar addresses
Most courier services require a physical delivery address.
Unless a specific delivery option expressly supports it, customers should not provide:
-
PO boxes;
-
private bags; or
-
similar postal addresses
as courier delivery addresses.
17. Delivery attempts
The recipient should ensure that someone is reasonably available to receive the parcel during the courier’s delivery window where the chosen service requires attended delivery.
Where a delivery attempt fails because:
-
nobody is available;
-
the customer cannot be contacted;
-
access to the premises is refused;
-
the address is materially incorrect;
-
the recipient refuses a correctly supplied parcel without a lawful reason; or
-
circumstances within the customer’s control prevent delivery,
the courier may attempt redelivery, hold the parcel for collection or return it to Bell & Barter.
Reasonable additional courier costs caused by these circumstances may be charged to the customer where permitted by law.
18. Returned-to-sender parcels
If a parcel is returned to Bell & Barter because delivery could not be completed for a reason attributable to the customer, Bell & Barter may contact the customer to arrange:
-
re-delivery at the customer’s reasonable additional cost; or
-
another appropriate resolution.
Where the customer no longer wishes to receive the goods, any refund or cancellation will be dealt with according to the Bell & Barter Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy and applicable law.
A returned-to-sender parcel is not automatically treated as a statutory cancellation.
19. Incorrect or failed courier delivery
If the courier delivers the parcel to an address or person that was not authorised by the customer, please contact Bell & Barter promptly.
We will investigate the matter with the courier.
The customer is not expected to pursue Bell & Barter’s courier in place of Bell & Barter where Bell & Barter remains legally responsible for resolving the delivery issue.
20. A parcel showing “delivered” that cannot be found
If tracking shows that a parcel was delivered but the customer cannot locate it, please:
-
check with other members of the household or business;
-
check with reception or security where applicable;
-
check the agreed safe-place instruction, if one was given; and
-
contact Bell & Barter as soon as possible.
We may obtain proof of delivery, GPS information, photographs, signatures or other available delivery evidence from the courier.
If the parcel was not properly delivered to the agreed location or an authorised recipient, Bell & Barter will deal with the matter in accordance with applicable law.
Where the evidence establishes that the parcel was properly delivered and accepted before subsequently being lost or stolen, Bell & Barter will ordinarily not be responsible for that subsequent loss.
21. Lost parcels
A parcel may occasionally be delayed sufficiently that the courier needs to conduct a formal trace.
A delayed parcel is not automatically considered lost.
Bell & Barter may first ask the courier to:
-
locate the shipment;
-
verify depot scans;
-
investigate its route;
-
obtain proof of delivery; or
-
conduct its standard missing-parcel investigation.
If a parcel is ultimately confirmed lost before lawful delivery or acceptance, Bell & Barter will offer the appropriate remedy required by law, which may include:
-
replacement, where stock is available and the customer agrees; or
-
a refund.
Bell & Barter’s ability to recover the value of the parcel from its courier or insurer does not determine whether the customer has a valid claim against Bell & Barter.
22. Goods damaged during delivery
Bell & Barter takes reasonable care to pack orders securely.
If an order arrives visibly damaged, crushed, opened, wet, tampered with or otherwise materially affected during transit, please notify us as soon as reasonably possible, preferably within 48 hours of delivery.
Where possible, please retain and photograph:
-
the outer courier packaging;
-
the shipping label;
-
all internal packaging;
-
the damaged item;
-
seals and wrapping; and
-
any other evidence of how the parcel arrived.
This information assists Bell & Barter in investigating the matter and pursuing the relevant courier or insurer.
The requested 48-hour notification period is intended to preserve evidence and assist with courier claims. It does not remove a statutory consumer right merely because notice was given later.
23. Collector-grade packaging
We recognise that, for many of the products Bell & Barter sells, the retail box itself forms part of the collectible.
We therefore take reasonable care when packing items such as:
-
trading card products;
-
statues;
-
figures;
-
books;
-
limited editions;
-
licensed collectibles; and
-
other collector goods.
Where a product’s retail packaging forms part of the advertised condition of the collectible, material pre-delivery damage to that packaging may be considered when assessing a delivery claim.
Ordinary marks or wear to the outer shipping carton do not, by themselves, mean the goods inside are damaged.
24. Preorders and backorders
A release date, supplier arrival date or estimated dispatch date shown for a preorder or backorder is based on the information available to Bell & Barter at the time.
Those dates may change due to:
-
manufacturer delays;
-
distributor delays;
-
international freight;
-
customs clearance;
-
licensing changes;
-
release-date changes;
-
production issues;
-
allocation shortages; or
-
other events outside Bell & Barter’s reasonable control.
Where the customer purchases a preorder or backorder with an expressly disclosed future fulfilment period, that period forms part of the agreed delivery arrangement.
Bell & Barter will communicate material delays where reasonably practicable.
Preorder cancellation rights are dealt with in our Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy and applicable South African law.
25. Orders containing both in-stock and preorder goods
Where one order contains both:
-
products currently in stock; and
-
products awaiting a future release or supplier delivery,
Bell & Barter may hold the order until all items are available unless:
-
the website states otherwise;
-
separate shipment has been purchased; or
-
Bell & Barter elects to split the shipment.
If Bell & Barter voluntarily splits an order, we will ordinarily bear the additional delivery charge.
If the customer specifically requests separate shipment, an additional reasonable shipping charge may apply.
26. Partial shipments
Bell & Barter may dispatch an order in more than one parcel where reasonably necessary.
This may occur because of:
-
parcel-size restrictions;
-
products shipping from different locations;
-
stock availability;
-
courier requirements; or
-
operational reasons.
Where Bell & Barter chooses to split a shipment for its own operational convenience, the customer will not be charged an undisclosed additional delivery fee.
27. Stock shortages after ordering
We take reasonable steps to keep stock information accurate.
Occasionally, however, stock may become unavailable because of:
-
a stock-count discrepancy;
-
damaged inventory;
-
a supplier allocation;
-
simultaneous orders;
-
a distributor error; or
-
another unexpected shortage.
Bell & Barter will not substitute a materially different product without the customer’s agreement.
Where goods cannot be supplied, we will notify the customer and provide the remedy required by the CPA, ECTA or other applicable law.
28. Events outside our reasonable control
Certain events may prevent or delay collection, transport or delivery despite reasonable steps being taken by Bell & Barter.
These may include:
-
severe weather;
-
flooding;
-
fire;
-
natural disasters;
-
road closures;
-
civil unrest;
-
strikes;
-
transport interruptions;
-
crime or security incidents;
-
governmental restrictions;
-
major power or telecommunications failures;
-
courier network disruptions;
-
accidents;
-
customs delays;
-
epidemics or public emergencies; or
-
other circumstances genuinely outside Bell & Barter’s reasonable control.
Where such an event affects an order, Bell & Barter will take reasonable steps to minimise the disruption and communicate a material delay where reasonably practicable.
Where applicable law gives the customer a right to cancel or receive another remedy despite such circumstances, that right remains unaffected.
29. Courier delays
Because couriers operate independently of Bell & Barter, we cannot control every stage of a parcel’s physical journey once it has entered the courier network.
Bell & Barter therefore does not guarantee that an estimated courier transit time will always be achieved.
However, Bell & Barter remains responsible for its own obligations under applicable consumer law and will assist customers with legitimate courier problems.
A courier’s delay does not automatically entitle Bell & Barter to disregard a statutory cancellation, refund or delivery right.
30. Consequential loss caused by delivery delays
To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, Bell & Barter will not be responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising solely from an unforeseen courier delay outside our reasonable control where the customer has been supplied with an estimated rather than guaranteed delivery date.
Customers should therefore contact us before ordering if delivery by a particular date is essential.
Where Bell & Barter expressly agrees in writing to a particular guaranteed delivery date, that agreement will be taken into account.
Nothing in this section excludes liability that Bell & Barter may not lawfully exclude.
31. High-value shipments
Bell & Barter may apply additional security requirements to higher-value orders.
These may include:
-
signature-on-delivery;
-
identity verification;
-
secure delivery methods;
-
collection at an approved location; or
-
refusal of unattended delivery instructions.
These measures are intended to protect both the customer and Bell & Barter.
32. Courier insurance and liability cover
Bell & Barter may obtain courier liability cover, declared-value cover or insurance for certain shipments.
Whether Bell & Barter’s courier or insurer ultimately reimburses Bell & Barter does not reduce a customer’s statutory rights against Bell & Barter.
Customers are therefore not required to pursue our insurance provider merely to exercise a valid consumer claim against Bell & Barter.
33. Restricted goods
Certain courier services impose restrictions on the type, value, size or nature of goods they will transport or insure.
Bell & Barter may therefore:
-
use a different courier;
-
apply additional packaging;
-
use a different service level;
-
restrict a delivery method; or
-
decline a delivery option
where reasonably necessary to comply with courier requirements or law.
If a material change affects an order already placed, we will contact the customer where necessary.
34. Delivery identification
A person delivering goods to a consumer’s premises should be able to provide suitable identification in accordance with applicable consumer law.
Customers should not hand over payment, return goods or provide sensitive information to a person whose identity or connection to the delivery cannot reasonably be verified.
35. Personal information and couriers
To fulfil an order, Bell & Barter may need to provide relevant personal information to:
-
Bob Go;
-
the selected courier;
-
delivery or collection-point providers;
-
fulfilment providers; and
-
other parties reasonably necessary to complete delivery.
This may include information such as:
-
name;
-
delivery address;
-
telephone number;
-
email address;
-
order or parcel reference; and
-
delivery instructions.
We will process and share personal information in accordance with applicable data-protection law and the Bell & Barter Privacy Policy.
36. International delivery
Where Bell & Barter offers international delivery, additional terms may apply in relation to:
-
customs;
-
import duties;
-
taxes;
-
restricted goods;
-
delivery times;
-
customs clearance;
-
import licences; and
-
destination-country requirements.
Any such charges or responsibilities will be disclosed where reasonably practicable and handled in accordance with applicable law.
The availability of international shipping for one product does not mean that every Bell & Barter product can be shipped internationally.
37. Delivery complaints
If there is a problem with a shipment, please contact Bell & Barter first so that we can investigate it.
Please provide, where applicable:
-
order number;
-
tracking number;
-
delivery address;
-
description of the problem;
-
photographs;
-
courier correspondence; and
-
any other information reasonably necessary to investigate the issue.
Bell & Barter will work with the relevant courier where required.
Customers should not ordinarily need to resolve a valid consumer claim against Bell & Barter directly with our courier.
38. Consumer complaints
If a delivery complaint cannot be resolved directly with Bell & Barter, an eligible consumer may make use of the dispute-resolution mechanisms available under South African law, including where applicable the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) or the National Consumer Commission (NCC).
Nothing in this Policy prevents a customer from exercising any right available under applicable law.
39. Relationship with our other policies
This Policy should be read together with Bell & Barter’s:
-
Refunds, Returns & Cancellations Policy;
-
Terms & Conditions;
-
Privacy Policy; and
-
any product-specific, preorder or promotional terms disclosed before purchase.
If this Policy conflicts with a non-waivable consumer right, the applicable law will prevail.
40. Updates to this Policy
Bell & Barter may update this Shipping & Delivery Policy from time to time to reflect changes in:
-
legislation;
-
courier arrangements;
-
delivery services;
-
fulfilment processes; or
-
our business operations.
The terms applicable to a particular transaction will be determined in accordance with applicable law and the terms made available when that transaction was concluded.
